‘OUR KIND OF TRAITOR’ screening with Q&A by director Suzanna White
OUR KIND OF TRAITOR is the new adaptation of a John LeCarre thriller directed by Suzanna White https://pro-labs.imdb.com/name/nm1264352 and I got to go to an amazing private screening where she held a Q&A afterwards. There is so much in the news about female directors not being trusted by the film world at large, the amount of female film directors in features is embarassingly small.
Suzanna White’s last feature was Nanny McPhee Returns in 2010 and she was asked why there had been such a long gap between her quite frankly amazing new film and her last. Although she has been busy directing TV she said again how hard it is, even with a track record for women to been seen to be trusted to make feature films with big budgets. OUR KIND OF TRAITOR, with the amazing Stellan Skarsgard, Damien Lewis, Ewan McGregor and a deliberately cast Naomie Harris is brilliant. The cinematography is just beautiful but it’s Susanna’s attention to detail with the character’s relationships that elevate this film to something more than just a thriller. It touches your heart whilst also having you on the edge of your seat.
These new stats from Directors UK are awful ;(
Please go and see it when it is released, the more female directors’ films are seen by the public, the more maybe the film industry will trust them to make more!
